About this course

This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualised service planning and delivery.

Students are required to attend 120 hours of work placement in aged care hour or community care facilities.

This course has a minimum of 15 supervised scheduled face to face course contact hours on campus per week as well as 5 distance / online education hours per week. This comes to a total of 20 hours per week. Students are also required to undertake reading, activities, research, assessments and homework.

The training package does not have any entry requirement, but NIET's specific course entry requirements are:

Education

  • 16 years old or above
    Completion of Year 12 / High School overseas or Australian
    Year 11 or equivalent

English

  • IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent
    Pass NIET LLN test
