The Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal) entitles certificate holders to:

Act as Chief Engineer on a vessel with propulsion power less than <750 kW within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)
Act as Second Engineer on a vessel with propulsion power less than <1500 kW within the EEZ
Act as an assistant under the direct supervision of the chief engineer; or in the engine room of a vessel up to 80m long with propulsion power up to <3,000 kW

This qualification is delivered in skill sets, enabling flexibility for students and the ability to articulate across qualifications.
