QUT College DiplomasAs a QUT College Diploma in Entrepreneurship (information technology pathway) Esports (information technology pathway) or Information Technology graduate you will automatically receive an offer to start the Bachelor of Information Technology within one week after completion of the diploma. You will also automatically receive up to 1.0 year (96 credit points) credit transfer and be able to complete the degree in 2 years as a full-time student (or equivalent part-time).

Dual TAFE-Qld Brisbane/QUT awardIf you enrol in a QTAC offer in a Diploma of Information Technology dual TAFE-Qld Brisbane/QUT award you will automatically receive a QUT conditional offer in June (semester 1 QTAC offer) or October (semester 2 QTAC offer) after your enrolment at TAFE-Qld Greater Brisbane is confirmed.
Upon completion of the TAFE-Qld diploma you will be able to enrol at QUT. You will also automatically receive 1 year (96 credit points) credit transfer and be able to complete the degree in 2 years as a full-time student (or equivalent part-time). More details will be provided in your QUT conditional offer letter.
The Information Systems major gives you the knowledge and skills of an IT professional to shape the industries of the future. You will develop expertise in the understanding of information technology capabilities and implications as well as proficiency in best-of-breed methods techniques and tools to improve and innovate the work of individuals and organisations.
In your first year you'll complete your common IT units introducing you to computer systems learning design and build principles and developing databases. You'll also learn information systems modelling and web application development.
Continuing into your second year your major will focus on developing systems thinking and skills in a business and management context including business process modelling business analysis project management and enterprise architecture. You will also customise your major with process data and technology options. You will have practical hands-on experiences throughout your course. In addition you will have the option of further specialisations through the choice of your second major or minor and options units.
Your final year is your opportunity to excel and showcase your skills with a major project. Your project will be for a real-world client and will be unveiled at the IT and Games Showcase held at the end of the year.
Foster your passion and shape your career through complementary study areas. As well as choosing a major area of study your course includes a second study area which can be either a second major or a double minor.
A second major can complement your major area of study allowing you to develop a significant depth of knowledge and skills in two discipline areas.
IT Second MajorsYou might prefer to expand the breadth of your studies by adding to your major with two minors. You can choose from the information technology discipline or you can broaden your studies by completing minors that offer general knowledge and insights in study areas from across the university.
IT MinorsInformation systems graduates have skills in design systems thinking stakeholder engagement and modelling and abstraction which positions them to work as business analysts enterprise architects and information systems consultants solving a range of organisational problems.
Depending on your choice of study areas opportunities also exist in business process management social media and mobile application development and in careers as information technology innovators within enterprises consulting companies or in your own start-up.
Study choice areas available can also lead to careers as domain experts chief technology officers chief information officers managers executives entrepreneurs or researchers. Graduates have the opportunity to achieve the highest levels of their profession.
This program is ACS accredited giving eligibility for ACS membership recognition by ACS for certification and migration skills assessment and international recognition by signatories of the Seoul Accord.
