You must have a completed recognised 3 or 4 year bachelor degree not in education or in a course leading to teacher registration.
You must also meet first teaching area prerequisites.
Additional entry requirementsYou must demonstrate possession of key competencies outlined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) as those attributes and motivations common to effective teachers.
To demonstrate this you must complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate your motivation for and understanding of the course and profession. Details are available from the QTAC initial teacher education webpage.
If you've achieved a satisfactory result for one or more components of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) at another institution the satisfactory result can be carried across with your admission application. You are not eligible to apply for a place in this course if one or more components of LANTITE remains at unsatisfactory after two test attempts for that component.
Selection ranksYou will be considered solely based on the selection ranks from all of your prior degree studies plus any postgraduate studies you may have undertaken. Your other qualifications and experiences may be allocated selection ranks for entry to other QUT courses will not be considered for this course.

Overseas qualificationsWe will consider equivalent overseas qualifications for admissions purposes. If your previous studies were completed in a country other than Australia Canada New Zealand Republic of Ireland United Kingdom or the United States of America or undertaken in a language other than English you must provide evidence of your English language proficiency.

Prerequisites: first teaching areaFor the first teaching area at least three quarters of a year (6 QUT units) of successful full-time recognised degree (or higher) study completed in a major area or equivalent. Completed study can be from different courses.
You must nominate your first and second preferred first teaching area on your QTAC application. You will be considered in order of your preferred first teacher area and if you are not eligible for your nominated first teaching areas you will be considered for alternative first teaching area. If you are offered a place you will only be offered one first teaching area which will be detailed in your QTAC application and in your QTAC offer email.

A completed recognised 3 or 4 year bachelor degree not in education or in a course leading to teacher registration with a minimum grade point average (GPA) score of 4 on QUT's 7 point scale (where 4 is a Pass).

Key capabilities in classroom and behaviour management will be developed before you undertake your first professional experience in a school setting. You will engage in up-to-date and relevant learning experiences designed to prepare you for your new career. You will have opportunities to develop and reflect on your own professional identity and explore the range of possible career directions available to you.

This course is at AQF Qualification 9 level. Graduates at this level will have specialised knowledge and skills for research professional practice and further learning.
Depending on where you live you can choose on campus external or a blended approach to study that accommodates your other commitments and your preferred learning style.
If you choose external study you'll be part of an online learning community and in regular contact with our expert teaching staff. QUT provides a variety of online learning environments where you will participate fully receive expert knowledge and guidance and have easy access to course content.
You can undertake Professional Experience placements in your home region and the schedule will be released well in advance so you can plan ahead. If you need to borrow resources from the QUT Library these can be posted to your home address.
Evening on campus classes may be available for some units.

The Queensland Government offers additional support to study this course through the Turn to Teaching Program. Successful applicants will receive a $20000 scholarship a paid internship and an offer of a permanent teaching position upon graduation. Applications for the 2024 intake of the Turn to Teaching Internship Program are planned to open in August 2023.

This course meets professional teaching standards for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and Queensland College of Teachers. Graduates are eligible to apply for teacher registration. Applicants seeking teacher registration in Australia may be required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency levels. Further information is available from relevant registering bodies.
If you decide you do not wish to complete a course that leads to teacher registration you can consider an option to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies as an alternative education qualification.
