This pre-vocational course is mainly aimed at school leavers or new entrants into the workforce. It provides the opportunity for those wishing to gain employment in the electrotechnology industry with the required prerequisite knowledge and skills to gain access to a wide range of apprenticeships offered within this industry.

In particular, the course provides training in basic electrical theory, electrical workshop practices, wiring and basic installation skills, the use of hand and power tools and an overview of the electrotechnology industry and the range of occupations within it.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to have language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills to at least Year 10 level.

Basic computer skills are required and students should be motivated by a desire for employment in the Electrotechnology field.

What you will learn

Completing this pre-apprenticeship course can lead to a range of career opportunities in the electrical, or electronics industries. Learn how to safely solve problems in extra-low voltage single-path and multiple-path DC circuits, identify and select materials for electrotechnology work activities, participate in environmentally sustainable work practices, use equipment/plant/technologies,

and dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components.

This course also covers a Construction Induction Card (White Card) - an industry requirement to work on construction sites and has credits for units from Year 1 of an Electrical Apprenticeship.
