This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are job ready and competent in a wide range of information and communications technology (ICT) roles and apply a broad range of skills in varied work contexts, using problem solving skills and effective communication with others. The skills required for these roles may include, but are not restricted to: Networking: installing, configuring and testing networks and servers in organisations. Programming: building, testing and applying structured and object-oriented programming skills, user interfaces and software development. Systems administration support: implementing maintenance procedures, supporting and troubleshooting ICT systems and applications. Web development: designing website layouts using textual and visual content transfer, search engine optimisation and simple markup language documents.
Each student will undertake a Pre-Training Review before enrolling to help confirm the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about an individual's existing skills and knowledge, language, literacy and numeracy skills and whether the course will help in achieving learning and/or employment goals. This qualification could lead to employment as a network technician, administrator or manager, ICT or user support officer, computer hardware technician, computer programmer or web developer. In addition to gaining employable skills, the qualification also equips students with the knowledge to proceed into further education in ICT.
