The course is approved for VET student loans for eligible students making training accessible to support your success in a career in justice or law enforcement.
The Advanced Diploma of Justice provides in-depth knowledge of the legal, social, psychological, cultural and ethical issues that shape and influence the discipline of justice to equip you with the professional skills and capabilities in a wide range of criminal justice areas. You will analyse why criminalisation occurs, learn about the responses to crime through social control and the role of rehabilitation in the correctional system. You will also learn the principles of restorative justice through contemporary approaches of criminology and sociology.
In dynamic classroom environments, you will develop knowledge of the requirements of justice workplaces by teachers that have worked in the justice system and bring real-life experiences to your learning. You will also develop capabilities in critical thinking and analytical skills in problem-solving necessary for successful careers in justice workplaces that include: Court Services Victoria, Corrections Victoria Adult Parole Board, the Department of Justice and Regulations Victoria, and Australian Border Force. The course can also help prepare graduates looking to pursue careers with Victoria Police as well as roles in protective services.

The Advanced Diploma of Justice provides graduates with the skills and knowledge for employment in supervisory positions.

 

Graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Justice will be able to meet the current and future industry requirements to effectively contribute to the operational functions, principles, and practices of the Victorian criminal justice system across a variety of justice environments.

Course structure

Successful completion of the course requires students to complete eight core units and four electives delivered over a period of 12 months for full-time students. (Part-time option is available). The course incorporates a student-centered model utilising face-to-face weekly classes, lectures, tutorials, online or self-paced study, research, case studies, role plays, audio-visual presentations, and simulations of real work practices. The timetable for the scheduled classes has been designed to maximise attendance on campus over two and a half consecutive days allowing students the opportunity to engage in part-time work and in work-life balance.

Credit for prior study or work

Credit is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Learn more about credit.
