If you're already working as a security officer or crowd controller and want to strengthen your skills and knowledge in the sector, our Certificate III in Security Operations is for you.
Delivered face-to-face five days a week at our Yallourn campus, you'll learn how to provide leadership in a team environment as a security officer in a range of security environments and develop your skills and knowledge in broad security operations.

Take the lead in the field with a Certificate III in Security Operations. This qualification reflects the role of a security officer responsible for maintaining safety and security by patrolling, protecting and guarding property, and screening entry, monitoring behaviour and removing persons from premises, an unarmed guard.
This course will teach you the practical skills you need to be a security team leader and will provide a pathway to further learning and work in various security roles and settings, including security risk management.




This course may lead to employment as a security supervisor in several security environments:
- Mobile patrols/alarm responses guard.
- Security at Educational institutions.
- Security at Major shopping centre/complexes
- Security or guard at Critical infrastructure such power, gas and mining.
- Security at Hospitals.
- Security at Major events.
- Security or Guard at Industrial complexes
- Security at Airports
- Security at Seaports.
- Security at logistics hubs.
- Security or guard at a Variety of retail complexes.
PLEASE NOTE:
Due to the high proportion of electives required by this qualification, the industry/enterprise requirements described in Certificate III Security Operations are representative of the security industry in general and may not reflect specific job roles. This Qualification does not provide all of the required units to vary a security licence in order to be employed as an armed guard or Cash in Transit.
In order to apply for a variation in licence with Victoria Police, you will be required to have successfully completed the following elective units for the listed job role:
ARMED GUARD:
All 8 core units including the following 6 elective units.
CPPSEC3125 Implement Security procedures to protect critical infrastructure and public assets
CPPSEC3111 Restrain Persons Using handcuffs
CPPSEC3110 Control Persons using Batons
CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi automatic pistols for security purposes
CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
CPPSEC3114 Control Security Risk Situations Using Firearms
CASH IN TRANSIT:
All 8 core units including the following 6 elective units.
CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi automatic pistols for security purposes
CPPSEC3115 Carry, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes
CPPSEC3114 Control Security Risk Situations Using Firearms (pre requisite required)
CPPSEC3120 Load and Unload Cash In Transit in Secured and Unsecured Environments
CPPSEC3119 Implement Cash in Transit Security procedures
CPPSEC3118 Inspect and Test Cash in Transit Security Equipment
COMBINED ARMED GUARD & CASH IN TRANSIT

Persons seeking to vary a security licence within the state of Victoria must:
1. Successfully complete a Certificate III in Security Operations, which has been approved by the Chief Police Commissioner, with all relevant elective units.
2. Apply to vary a security licence via Victoria Police website.
Completion of the course DOES NOT guarantee a security licence or employment in the security industry.
After successfully completing the training course the graduate is required to apply to Victoria Police vary their security licence to add the sub activities of Armed Guard & Cash in Transit.
To ensure the safety of all Victorians, there are minimum standards that all licence applicants are required to meet before they are eligible to perform work within the various segments of the private security. These requirements are outlined in the relevant Victoria Police Application to Vary Security Licence form.
To be eligible for a private security licence in the State of Victoria, you must:
* be 18 years or over,
* be a resident of Australia or be the holder of a current visa (with relevant work rights)
* be subject to a National Police Check which requires the taking of your fingerprints to include firearms licence,
* provide certified copies of International Police Checks from any other country resided in for a period of more than 12 months over the previous 10 years since turning 16 years of age
* not be a prohibited person
* be a fit and proper person - this includes not having any medical condition or history with police that would hinder your employment within the industry
* demonstrate competency for working in the security industry by completing training relevant to the private security activity or activities you wish to be licensed for with a training organisation approved by the Licensing and Regulation Division
* provide a letter from a prospective employer as evidence of employment as an Armed Guard or Cash in Transit operative within the private security industry.
* successfully complete all requirements for licensing for a general category handgun for the purposes of working in the security industry.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who wish to deepen and broaden their skills and knowledge in security operations and lead security teams in the field. It provides a pathway to further learning and work in various security roles and settings, including security risk management.
Security officers at this level provide leadership in a team environment, operate under limited supervision, and use discretion and judgement in known and unpredictable work contexts. They take responsibility for their own outputs in work and learning, and limited responsibility for the output of others in the work team.
