About this course

A slewing mobile crane is a mobile crane incorporating a boom or jib that can be slewed.

In this course you will learn the skills required to safely operate a slewing mobile crane with a capacity up to 20 tonnes.

Successful participants will be eligible to apply to WorkSafe Victoria for a High Risk Work Licence for the class C2.



On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to:

  • Plan Operations: Hazard management and consultation
  • Pre-operational Inspections: Crane and associated equipment
  • Set up: Outriggers, crane boom and lifting equipment
  • Transfer Loads: Shift loads with slings and mobile loads
  • Conclude Operations: Shut down and pack up crane and equipment following site specific procedures

Entry requirements

Minimum of 18 years of age.

Career pathways

Successful completion of this course allows you to apply for the License to Operate Slewing Mobile Crane (up to 20 tonnes) and the licence would allow the licensee to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 20 tonnes) in a variety of roles. The role of a crane operator is to lift and shift heavy objects around construction sites, mines, docks, and other work sites.
