Long Range Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency - Marine Radio

It is a legal requirement that all persons operating a VHF or MF/HF Marine Radio hold a Certificate of Proficiency. This includes recreational vessels as well as commercial operators.

SEAMEC offers Marine Radio Operator training to both Commercial and Recreational boat operators. Our training is conducted by qualified and experienced trainers so you can be assured you will receive quality training which is up-to-date.

At the completion of the course an examination will be conducted. This examination is administered by the Australian Maritime College on behalf of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). Upon passing the exam, students will receive their LROCP licence in the mail.

You will learn:

• Operator and legislative requirements
• Radio wave propagation
• Digital Selective Calling (DSC)
• How to access Search and Rescue services
• Use of Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacons (EPIRB) and other location equipment
• Practical use of Marine Radios (27 MHz, VHF and MF/HF)
• Care and maintenance of radio communication equipment
