About this course

Fine tune your musical talent with this qualification. This specialised course will provide you with instrumental and vocal techniques and performance skills, music literacy, aural training and music analysis skills. Gain the skills to perform in an ensemble, and develop a repertoire and original material, which will be recorded in the on-campus recording studio.

During your studies you will learn how to incorporate technology into music composition, basic live audio skills, digital distribution, intellectual property management and mental health awareness.

Benefit from on-campus industry standard learning resources such as our fully equipped live performance venue, recording and rehearsal studios. You will be supported by music lecturers who have current industry experience and gain exposure to a range of industry figures and networks while working closely with studio engineers and technical production teams.

Entry requirements

  • An IELTS score (academic) of 6.0 with no band score less than 5.0 or equivalent.

  • Completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 10.

  • Students will be required to participate in an interview with the North Metropolitan TAFE Head of Program for Music to discuss their Resume which outlines musical skills and experience.

    To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 16 units. These 16 are comprised of 4 core units and 12 elective units. Elective units listed below have been selected in consultation with industry.

    Students who enrol into this qualification will be eligible for credit transfer of the units that they have already achieved. Fees paid by international students are set on a commercial basis and are paid as a whole of course fee - no refund will apply to credit transfers.
