This qualification is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to service and repair air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy commercial vehicles in an automotive service and repair business, and is available for both mechanical trades and auto body trades.
The course will also prepare you - as a new or existing employee - for work in the air conditioning service and repair industry, and is a requirement if you are looking to apply for an Australian Refrigeration Council (ARCtick) - Refrigeration Handling Licence.
In this course you will learn how to test and repair basic electrical circuits, diagnose, repair and service air conditioning and Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, and carry out a range of diagnostic procedures. You'll also learn how to participate in safe working practices and follow environmental and sustainability best practice in an automotive workplace.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills you need to work on air conditioning equipment in light, heavy and commercial vehicles, and apply for a range of roles such as Automotive Air Conditioning Technician. You will also be able to apply for your Automotive Refrigerant Handling Licence from the Australian Refrigerant Council.
You may also consider undertaking further training at TasTAFE and go on to study at Certificate III-level in a range of related areas including Automotive Electrical, Light Vehicle Mechanical, Motorcycle, Heavy Commercial, Outdoor Power Equipment and Mobile Plant Technology.
This course is designed for people who are currently employed within the Automotive Service and Repair sector. To undertake this course, you must have access to a suitable workplace for the practical components of the course and be supervised at your workplace by an appropriately experienced or qualified trades person who is able to sign-off on the workplace practical tasks.
This course is also available as an Australian Apprenticeship.
