If you are interested in the Tasmanian energy sector, this program is strongly aligned with industry and potential job opportunities. In 2022, this 17-week course will be delivered by TasTAFE with the support of NECA (the National Electrical and Communications Association). Students will have the unique opportunity to participate in a number of industry-based activities delivered by NECA as well as gain this fantastic qualification from TasTAFE.

This career start program will give you a grounding in safety and basic skills and knowledge for working in the broader energy sector, including renewable energy. You will learn how to fabricate, assemble, and dismantle electronic components, solve problems in direct current circuits and apply work, health and safety codes in the workplace. You'll discover how to apply environmentally and sustainable energy practices and procedures in the energy sector and promote sustainable energy practices in the community. You'll also learn how to provide basic sustainable energy solutions for energy reduction in residential premises.

The course includes face to face classes, access to online resources, skills practice in simulated workshops and workplace visits. Successful completion of this course will give you a strong foundation for better understanding the Tasmanian energy industry - including the exciting opportunities available in renewable energy. You also have the basic skills and knowledge required to gain an entry-level position in any electrotechnology or sustainable energy field.

Students will be selected for this course based on an interview with a TasTAFE teacher and a NECA representative.
