Learn how to maintain and monitor animal health and wellbeing with this Certificate III-level qualification in Animal Studies.
This course will give you practical, hands-on skills working with a range of animals and the chance to develop your skills in planning for and providing nutritional requirements for animals, maintaining and monitoring animal health and wellbeing, and complying with infection control policies and procedures in animal work.
You'll be able to gain practical experience administering medication and managing treatments for animals (under supervision), as well as learn how to undertake research and provide information on animal products and services.
Throughout the course, you will hear from a range of guest speakers and participate in excursions covering a range of specialist aspects of the animal care industry. You'll also have the opportunity to research and develop your own animal enrichment project and record observations and undertake a work placement at a variety of animal industry locations including animal welfare centres and veterinary clinics.
You will focus on providing basic care for domestic cats, dogs, birds and mammals, and provide enrichment and basic care for animals and young animals in a domestic context.
On successful completion of this course you will be prepared to seek employment in a wide range of fields including animal control and regulation, animal technology, companion animal services and veterinary nursing.
This course has the following essential entry requirements:
Due to the popularity of this course, applications are processed in groups. Applicants within the first group will be invited to an interview where they will complete a questionnaire. They will need to successfully complete the questionnaire to obtain a place in the course.
If your application is not within the first group, you will be placed on a wait list and will be invited to an interview if a place becomes available.
It makes sense that you should be recognised for the things you already know how to do.
TasTAFE can assess your skills and knowledge based on your previous education, work history or life experience - which may help you to gain your qualification a whole lot faster!
More information on the recognition process is available on our recognition of prior learning and skills page.
