This qualification is designed to prepare you for work in the Automotive industry as a new employee/apprentice, and is also ideal if you are an existing worker looking to gain formal recognition for the work you already do as an Automotive Body Repair Technician.
In this course, you will learn how to perform a broad range of tasks repairing and maintaining the body of cars, heavy vehicles and other vehicles in the automotive service and repair sector.
You'll learn how to test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles, and use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace, as well as interpret and apply automotive repair instructions, and apply original equipment manufacturer repair procedures during vehicle repairs.
You'll learn how to inspect vehicle damage and determine repair procedures, as well as how to repair vehicle chassis, frame and associated components and body misalignment. You'll get lots of hands-on experience repairing vehicle body panels using filler, and repairing adhesive bonded structural damage on vehicles, as well as how to follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace.
You'll also get the opportunity to remove, replace and align bolt-on vehicle body panels and components and major welded panels on vehicles, as well as carry out advanced gas metal arc welding and oxyacetylene thermal heating and cutting on vehicle body sections.
This course is designed for people who are currently employed within the Automotive Service and Repair sector. To undertake this course, you must have access to a suitable workplace for the practical components of the course and be supervised at your workplace by an appropriately experienced or qualified trades person who is able to sign-off on the workplace practical tasks.
On successful completion of this course, you will have gained the skills and knowledge you need to effectively repair and maintain the body of a variety of cars, heavy vehicles and other vehicles and seek employment as an Automotive Body Repair Technician. You may also like to consider undertaking further study at TasTAFE and go on to study a related course such as AUR32416 - Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology.
