Certificate
BEE-lieve it or not - you can combine your passion for working with bees with formal training and gain a nationally recognised vocational qualification in Beekeeping.
This qualification is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to become a honey bee Beekeeper through undertaking nationally recognised training.
Over the course of your training, you will learn how to establish beehives and apiaries, transport live bees and manage bees for honey production or pollination services.
In this course, you'll gain skills in selecting and establishing an apiary site, how to use a bee smoker and manage honey bee swarms, as well as how to extract a honey crop from a hive. You'll also learn how to construct and repair beehives and manage pests and disease within a honey bee colony, as well as open and reassemble a beehive, re-queen a honey bee colony and manipulate a honey bee brood.
As part of your qualification, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to work health and safety processes relevant to the industry, and comply with industry quality assurance requirements.
This course is workplace-based which means our experienced TasTAFE trainers will visit you on your worksite every 4-8 weeks to assess your progress. This course is delivered through coaching by an experienced beekeeper, and is supported by learning guides and using your employer's policies and procedures as learning materials.
This course is also available as an Australian Apprenticeship.
