Lay the foundations of a great career by learning the skills to become a specialist bricklayer or blocklayer.
In this qualification you will learn how to handle and prepare bricklaying and blocklaying materials, use bricklaying and blocklaying tools and equipment and lay masonry walls and corners.
You will also learn types of housing construction such as masonry veneer construction, cavity brick construction, lay multi-thickness walls and piers, construct masonry structural systems and install fire-rated masonry construction. Then you will learn specialised bricklaying units such as construct masonry arches, curved walls, fireplaces and chimneys, construct decorative brickwork and lay paving.
You will also learn how to apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements, policies and procedures, work safely at heights and erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding. You will learn how to plan and organise work, carry out measurements and calculations, read and interpret plans and specifications apply basic levelling procedures and carry out concreting to simple forms.
This qualification is offered as an Australian Apprenticeship and requires you to be employed by a suitable industry-specific employer. You will attend scheduled campus-based training and some workplace assessments during your employment.
