About this course

Learn the skills and knowledge needed to become a painter and decorator in residential and commercial settings.

In this qualification you will learn how to handle and store painting and decorating materials, erect and maintain trestle and plank systems, use painting and decorating tools and equipment and remove and replace doors and window components.

You will learn skills on how to prepare surfaces for painting, apply paint by brush, roller and spray, match paint colours, apply stains and clear timber finishes, remove and apply wallpaper and apply decorative paint finishes. You can elect to obtain the skills of rendering and texture coating.

In this qualification you will also learn how to work safely at heights, calculate costs of construction work, work effectively and sustainably, carry out measurements and calculations, read and interpret plans and specifications, operate elevated work platforms up to 11 metres, erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding and apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements, policies and procedures.

This qualification is offered as an Australian Apprenticeship and requires you to be employed by a suitable industry-specific employer. You will attend scheduled campus-based training and have the opportunity to be trained/assessed on-site for specific skills during your employment.
