With a qualification in School Based Education Support, you'll be able to work in kindergartens, primary, secondary schools, and colleges to support students in a variety of different ways. Duties may include general classroom supervision, guiding small group learning, the preparation and implementation of teaching support materials and learning environments, and assisting and participating in activities that enhance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of schoolchildren. You may also be working with students with a disability or additional needs and be involved in some personal care routines.
This course will equip you with the skills you need to work effectively with students to support their learning, and the opportunity to get hands-on experience through a 100-hour (minimum) work placement in a school environment. You'll learn how to assist teachers in implementing planned educational programs for students and obtain valuable experience in supporting the development of students' literacy, numeracy, and oral language skills. You'll also learn how to support responsible student behaviour and students in need of additional learning support.
