This qualification applies to Building Designers who undertake building design projects covered by the Building Code of Australia (BCA), except Construction Type A buildings, and covers the many aspects of design relating to residential projects, including new buildings, heritage restorations and additions or renovations, as well as small-scale commercial and industrial projects including factories, motels, offices, restaurants, retail or service outlets and warehouses.
This course will provide you with an integrated knowledge of construction systems and design processes as they relate to building design, as well as an understanding of the legal and administrative processes necessary in achieving the desired outcomes for residential and small commercial development.
Throughout the course, you will learn how to research compliance requirements, construction materials and methods for small-scale residential building design projects, as well as how to apply work health and safety requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry.
You'll also gain practical experience in developing concepts for small-scale building design projects, and recommending sustainability solutions, as well as how to finalise solutions with clients, and, you'll also have the opportunity to produce compliant client-approved designs for small-scale building design projects and working drawings for small-scale residential buildings.
On successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to seek employment as a Building Designer with firms that specialise in building design or architecture. This qualification will also allow you to register for membership with the national professional organisation, the Building Designers Association of Australia (BDA).
