Are you thinking about studying at TasTAFE but feeling unprepared? This short course will teach you some of the foundation skills you need to be a successful learner at TasTAFE.

The Prepare for Study course is for students who are thinking about studying at TasTAFE and who would benefit from some training in preparation. This training will be in foundation skills that support successful study as well as support with the TasTAFE course application process. It has been designed to support learners who may have been out of study for some time or are nervous about starting at TasTAFE. The course replicates the experience of many TasTAFE courses, with a mixture of on-campus classes, and online independent study.

The skills and knowledge all relate to being well prepared for TasTAFE study, students will learn how to use their Microsoft 365 account, will be introduced to the Canvas platform, and will learn videoconferencing basic for both Microsoft Teams and Zoom. In addition to these technology skills, the student will learn about study skills in general, such as time management, how to understand and prepare for assessments, basic reading and writing strategies for study and how to maintain a positive growth mindset.

Students will be shown how to work through the TasTAFE application and enrolment process including reviewing course information, entry requirements, and desirable skills and attributes for various courses. Students will be able to do a literacy and numeracy review to see where their current skills are and what they may need to work on to meet their vocational goals. The training is made relevant to individual circumstances whenever possible, so you will focus on what is relevant to your own vocational pathway.
