About this course

Are you a water person with previous guiding or leadership experience? Are you passionate about exploring Tasmania's unique maritime climate and rugged coastline? Learn to lead others on a water adventure by kayak with this short course!

If you already have some guiding experience, or you're a TasTAFE Bushwalking Tour Guide course graduate, this course makes an ideal addition to your existing skills and knowledge. Learn to work as a Sea Kayak Guide and lead single day paddle activities with groups of tourists in a safe, structured, sustainable and fun way.

In this short course, you will learn about paddling techniques; weather interpretation and route planning; leading and managing groups; risk identification and avoidance; and -importantly - rescue techniques. You will also gain some valuable techniques to help you provide a world class guiding experience, showcasing Tasmania's exceptional coastline! During the course, you will undertake a range of single-day paddle activities at local Derwent Estuary venues and on the Tasman Peninsula.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed and be qualified to undertake a range of kayaking activities and tours.
