Are you responsible for the safety of groups of people in the great outdoors? Take your skills to the next level with a certification in Wilderness First Aid and manage injuries and illness in Tasmania's wilderness with confidence.
This nationally recognised short course is designed for adventure guides, outdoor educators and instructors, outdoor recreation leaders and remote area workers. In this course, you will learn how to coordinate an emergency response and to provide First Aid to casualties in a remote area over an extended period until medical assistance is provided or evacuation occurs.
A range of scenarios and practical assessments are included in this course, through a combination of online and practical learning. There is also three days of onsite training in a bush setting.
This course consists of three parts to be completed as follows:
1. Provide First Aid (HLTAID011). Many people choosing this course provide us with a Statement of Attainment confirming they have completed this unit within the last 3 years. If this applies to you, there is no need to repeat this unit!
If you don't have this unit, don't worry! When you enrol, we will contact you and arrange for you to complete this unit with us at no extra cost. Once completed, you can progress to the next part of this course. Easy!
2. Online Learning For the second part of the Wilderness First Aid certification, you will have 10 days to complete the online learning and assessment component. This theory part of the course must be completed no later than 3 days before the onsite training.
3. Onsite Training This is where it all comes together! Our experienced outdoor instructors will take you into a bush setting over 3 days. Here you will have the opportunity to put your skills and knowledge into action, including being exposed to simulated emergencies requiring response.
On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed. To keep your Wilderness First Aid certification and skills current, this course needs to be updated every three years.
