About this course

By completing this Combined Bachelor's and Master's course you will graduate with both a Bachelor of Marine Science and Master of Marine Biology. In your first three years you will complete the Marine Science Extended Major which will expose you to the full breadth of the marine science discipline, allowing deeper understanding of both the physical and biological components through our comprehensive degree. Through experimental design and research, both in the field and in laboratories, you will learn to appreciate the complex biological and physical interactions that occur in our coastal and offshore marine ecosystems and gain practical experience through field trips (including multiple field camps) and computer based labs. You will also complete a semester of postgraduate study during this time. You will then complete a final year of postgraduate study in the Master of Marine Biology. The master's component of the course enables you to strengthen your quantitative skills and application of science into industry practice and management. You will have access to world-leading facilities at the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC) and will be learning from internationally recognised experts to help give you the best opportunities to kick start your career. This combined degree is the ultimate multi- and interdisciplinary learning environment that will best place students to continue a pathway into research via a PhD or pursue a career in a marine related discipline after graduation. If you decide not to continue in the CBM you can exit after three years with a Bachelor of Marine Science (Advanced). Note that the Advanced Bachelor Degree is available only as a CBM exit award. It is not offered for direct enrolment and is not awarded on completion of the CBM.
