What you will learn

Conducted over six months full-time or 12 months part-time, this flexible program is designed and taught by our world-class, research-active cyber security experts. Through a flexible combination of face-to-face and digital learning, you will:

  • gain fundamental skills and knowledge in cyber security and computer science, including computer architecture and programming
  • build skills in managing cyber security risks and threats at an organisational level
  • learn to critically seek and analyse data, materials and technology to understand and advise on issues relating to cyber security practice, governance and policy.

Career pathways

You could go on to a full bachelor degree in computer science or IT-whether to start your first career, or an exciting new one. You might draw on your enhanced capabilities to step up in an existing role. Perhaps the qualification will help you win a well-deserved promotion.

*Commonwealth Support for the Undergraduate Certificates is only available to domestic students in 2021 as part of the Australian Government's Job Ready Graduates package. On current advice, you must also complete the qualification by 31 December 2021. Students can look to continue further studies into a Bachelor degree with credit.


Course structure

The Undergraduate Certificate in Cyber Security is suitable for students from diverse backgrounds who wish to develop new skills in the growing area of cyber security. It provides a pathway, and advanced standing, to further learning in either the Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Information Technology. It is also a stand-alone qualification of broad applicability in today's workplace.

In this program, students will undertake four core courses designed to provide skills and knowledge in computer science and cyber security.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Cyber Security has a standard full-time duration of 0.5 years.
