Studying the combined Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Economics gives you more career flexibility and choices when you graduate, as well as the opportunity to explore a range of subjects in-depth.

In this combined degree, you complete a set of core units in economics, accounting, marketing and organisational behaviour, then choose two majors to complete (one from the Bachelor of Business component, one from the Bachelor of Economics component).

Business majors: Accounting, Agribusiness, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management and Marketing.

Economics majors: Applied Econometrics, Economics, Economic Development, Environmental Analysis and Policy.

Combined degrees are structured to enable you to graduate in a much shorter time than it would take to complete the two degrees individually. Each degree on its own is 3 years full-time study, but this combined degree is just 4 years full-time.

What you will learn

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. BBus students: demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of business and management theory and processes and their application to real-world business contexts, including an opportunity to complete a capstone experience, and to promote sustainable business in a globalised economy;
  2. utilise cognitive and communication skills, tools and digital technologies to communicate appropriately and persuasively with a range of stakeholders;
  3. apply critical and creative thinking to analyse complex real-world business problems and synthesise materials from a variety of sources in identifying solutions;
  4. identify relevant information drawn from a range of sources in order to analyse data and complex business-related issues;
  5. evaluate and demonstrate judgement in formulating responses to complex, social, cultural and ethical issues;
  6. demonstrate a preparedness to engage in continuous learning and reflection to help inform professional practice; and
  7. demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively to generate solutions to business problems.
  8. BEc students: identify, coherently explain and synthesise disciplinary concepts to economic issues;
  9. apply economic reasoning and analytical skills, in order to make informed judgements and decisions;
  10. reflect on the nature and implications of assumptions and value judgements in economic analysis and policy;
  11. use quantitative data to critically analyse common economic issues and understand their role in economic and business decision-making and policy decisions; and
  12. demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication skills required at a professional level.

Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to pursue a wide range of career paths, including positions in business management; accounting and finance; public services as policy officers, analysts, economic modellers, advisers, trade and industry officers; private-sector positions in financial management, forecasting, banking, insurance and agribusiness firms; business consulting; commodities or futures trader; importer/exporter; international positions with agencies such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations.
