About this course

The Bachelor of Nursing (BN) is offered On Campus and Online either Full-time or Part-time. Units are offered in all three trimesters allowing students to complete the course in two calendar years if they wish. Both On Campus and Online students participate in structured and timetabled learning activities.

Students who successfully complete 6 trimesters of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) graduate with a BN and are eligible to apply to become a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Registered nurses play a key role in health services across the world and a variety of settings. Graduates of the BN have the necessary knowledge and skills of a registered nurse, an appreciation of the value of life-long learning and a firm foundation for further study at a postgraduate level.

Applicants who have an un-restricted Enrolled Nurse registration with the NMBA can apply under Admission Rule (b) and can complete in four trimesters of full-time study (or part-time equivalent).

The Bachelor of Nursing also offers two admission pathways for International Students under Rule (c) and Rule (d).

All students are required to undertake professional experience placements and must meet additional mandatory requirements prior to this. Students should not enrol in the course if they cannot meet these requirements. Students should commence these requirements prior to commencing the course. Failure to complete vaccinations or provide evidence of adequate seroconversion will result in the inability to complete clinical placement.

The BN requires attendance at on campus intensive schools and participation in online supervised assessment by all students enrolled in either On Campus or Online study modes. For applicable units in Trimester 3, 2020 multiple intensive schools will be scheduled across the trimester. Students will be required to book into one intensive school group via Moodle. Trimester 1 admission is available for domestic students only - students can study Online or On Campus.

Note: International Students admitted under Rule (c) will have an On Campus intake in Trimester 2 and Trimester 3 at Armidale or UNE Sydney (Parramatta). As quotas apply at each campus you may not be offered your campus of choice. International Students admitted under Rule (d) will be able to study On Campus at Armidale only, commencing in Trimester 3.

Alternative Admission Pathway

Early and alternative entry pathways are offered to applicants who do not meet entry criteria based on formal study.

Applicants who do not meet admission criteria may be able to commence in UNE's Diploma of Community Welfare and Wellbeing or a UNE Enabling Program which consists of two units that provide a foundation for university study and two units that are in first year of the BN (HLTH101 and HLTH103).

Please Note: for Domestic applicants applying under Rules (a), (b) and (e), applications closed Friday 10 January 2020 as quotas for 2020 have been met.

Students studying outside Australia due to COVID19 pandemic and associated international travel restrictions.

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) has set an upper limit of one (1) trimester as the length of time that students can study online outside Australia. The is in accordance with the Registered Nurse Accreditation Standards 2012 and 2019, which both limit study outside Australia to one semester/trimester. Students can not undertake any professional experience placements while outside Australia. As per the ANMAC explanatory note, titled 'Students Studying Outside Australia during the COVID19 Pandemic in 2020': "All students located outside Australia who were due to either continue with their program or commence their program in Semester 1/Trimester 1, 2021 and beyond must postpone their studies until they are able to travel to Australia."
