The Master of Strategic Organisational Development and Human Resource Management is specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals who are either currently practising or wish to practise in the field of organisational development and/or human resource management.

Learn to become:

A leader in organisational and individual change and learning. Understand what it takes to lead organisations to enact their strategic missions and to manage their human resources needs in complex and changing business environments.

A strategic intervention specialist. Make decisions and implement solutions involving human resources and organisational structures through cutting edge analysis and diagnosis.

An effective change agent capable of building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders to successfully manage change.

A critical thinker around ethical issues involved in organisational development and change.

This program will develop a set of core competencies which will bring together human resource and organisational development themes and develop your understanding of strategic management issues. In addition, students can undertake electives in specialist subjects.

This degree is accredited by the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI).

Entry requirements

A candidate shall submit a Statement of Service for their work experience from their employer; and

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above and have at least two years of full time equivalent relevant work experience*;
or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management from this University or its equivalent plus two years of relevant work experience*;
or

(c) hold an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification in a relevant discipline**, plus at least two years relevant work experience*.

*Relevant work experience refers to a position of responsibility in any organisational or industry context.

**Relevant discipline may include, but is not limited to: Business or Management.

What you will learn

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge in the fields of contemporary human resource management theory and practice, organisational development and change, business ethics, leadership, the legal environment, strategic managemnet, and management more broadly, in order to be an effective HR professional and promote sustainable business in a globalised economy, and the ability to plan and execute a substantial research-based project;
  2. utilise advanced cognitive and communication skills, tools and digital technologies to communicate appropriately and persuasively with a range of stakeholders;
  3. apply advanced critical and creative thinking to analyse complex human resource and business-related problems and synthesise materials from a variety of sources in identifying solutions that maximise organisational performance and to achieve business objectives;
  4. identify, critically evaluate and synthesise relevant information drawn from a range of sources in order to analyse complex human resource and business related issues;
  5. critically evaluate and demonstrate expert judgement in formulating responses to complex social, cultural and ethical issues in a range of organisational contexts;
  6. demonstrate a preparedness to engage in continuous learning and reflection to develop new insights into professional practice; and
  7. illustrate advanced skills in working autonomously and with others to generate solutions and show a capacity to function as a leader, including the ability to collaborate in a range of contexts to achieve individual and common goals.
