Bachelor
Mathematics degrees at UniSA share a common first year. Therefore at the end of first year you can change to the Data Science specialisation if you wish, and retain credits for the courses you've already done.
High achieving students will get the opportunity to work in the Maths Clinic on a real-world industry problem sourced from a sponsoring industry, government or non-profit organisation which is then solved in an academic setting.
UniSA is the largest information and communications technology provider in South Australia. It is regarded as one of the leading Applied Mathematics departments in Australia. Our world-class facilities at Mawson Lakes campus offer an inspiring learning environment such as the multi-million dollar Materials and Minerals Science Learning and Research Hub.
Our degrees emphasise the development of critical thinking, creativity and hands-on learning to produce graduates who are in high demand.
Many mathematics courses are small and incorporate active learning activities that encourage peer learning and develop cooperation and communication skills.
In first year you'll study core subjects in mathematics and IT. You will focus on building your mathematical and programming skills with courses that include calculus, statistical methods, fundamentals of programming, and databases.
You will study multi-disciplinary areas such as mathematical modelling, data collection and analysis, numerical analysis, and the implementation of computer-driven solutions. You can also choose to study a minor in Information Technology.
In your final year you will take part in the Maths Clinic program. In Maths Clinic a team of students, supported by a faculty supervisor, works on a problem in close consultation with an industry partner. This will strengthen your abilities in research, analysis, and interpretation of data.
You can gain an extra qualification and broaden your career prospects by completing a Diploma in Languages.
With qualifications in Industrial and Applied Mathematics, your multi-disciplinary skills will position you for roles in sectors such as defence, government and finance.
Careers to consider:
If you think you might be interested in secondary school teaching, you can apply for the Bachelor of Mathematics (Industrial and Applied Mathematics)/Master of Teaching (Secondary), it's a direct pathway into postgraduate study.
