Overview

UniSQ's Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing (Visual Art) will expand your creativity, leadership and facilitation skills, and your understanding of the needs of community care and development.
Build your technical, analytical and research skills within all visual art areas, including the studio disciplines: painting, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, and drawing, and be introduced to curatorial and cultural management.
The combination of courses in human services and visual arts, along with a project placement in a community organisation during your final year, will make you career-ready to utilise your creative talents to generate wellbeing in diverse communities.

Attend an interview with selected creative arts major discipline staff to confirm satisfactory capacity to participate in practical courses.
To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in English (Units 3 & 4, C). We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.
If no ATAR, applicants can successfully undertake an audition/interview with portfolio and supply a written statement.

Applicants will need to bring:

A school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved.
Please look at further interview requirements for the Bachelor of Visual Art (Curation, Innovation & Visual Art major or Visual Art Studio Practice major)
If you don't have an ATAR, please provide a written statement (500 words) addressing your goals and aspirations as a creative artist working in community settings, with some reflection on your visual art experiences and training.

Note: It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing. English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Graduates will have the necessary skills to collaborate with health providers, local governments, and community organisations and undertake arts-led service initiatives.
Work in the creative industries and apply your talents and abilities in other areas like community services (youth, indigenous, aged, refugee, homeless, unemployed, disability etc.), hospitals/allied health, correctional services, local government, and charity organisations.

Degree structure

To complete this degree students must complete 24 units. Most courses (similar to 'subjects') are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.

or 2 x 4-unit minors
or 1 x 4-unit minor plus 4 x elective courses 8 Total 24

*The second 8-unit major can be chosen from any approved 8-unit major in another discipline in the School of Creative Arts (e.g. Theatre, Music, TV/Radio, Film Production etc.) or from a recommended major outside of the creative arts, such as Child and Family Studies, Health and Social Wellbeing, or Community Development and Indigenous Studies, providing all entry requirements are met.

Professional experience

As part of the degree, you will need to complete professional experience placements. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional practice within this degree.

Residential schools

If you are enrolled in the External study mode in this degree, you will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials, use the facilities and meet staff and other students.
