About this scholarship

The University of Sydney (USYD) and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) offer three prestigious programs (The Programs) to support Chinese scholars through study opportunities in Australia:

USYD-CSC Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The USYD-CSC Postgraduate Research Scholarship is offered to prospective or current PhD students for up to 4 years. Applicants with a Conditional Offer of Admission to a PhD program are eligible to apply for the USYD-CSC Postgraduate Research Scholarship.

USYD-CSC Postgraduate Research Visiting Scholarship

The USYD-CSC Postgraduate Research Visiting Scholarship is offered to students up to 2 years. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a postgraduate degree program in China and must remain enrolled for the duration of their intended research project at the University of Sydney.

USYD-CSC Visiting Scholars

Visiting Scholar (12 months) Scholarship - Academics with significant publications and experience who are eligible for the CSC Visiting Scholars grant can apply for the Visiting Scholar fellowship for up to 12 months. 

Visiting Scholar (24 months) Scholarship for Postdoctoral Fellows - Early career researchers who have obtained a PhD degree recently and eligible for the CSC postdoctoral fellows grant can apply for a Visiting Scholar fellowship for up to 24 months.

Applicants must be citizens of the People’s Republic of China, not be currently working or studying in Australia at the time of application and meet relevant requirements at the time of application without further preparatory study required. Preference will be given to applicants working in areas of study that meet Chinese and Australian national research priorities.

Program Benefits

The University provides the following benefits towards the programs:

  • Tuition fee scholarship to cover tuition fees;

The China Scholarship Council provides the following benefits towards the programs:

  • Living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government;
  • Minimum cost international airfare direct from China to Sydney, and return on expiry of the program;
  • Cost of the visa application fee to permit study at the University of Sydney; and
  • Cost of Overseas Student Health Cover, if applicable.
