Music is about expression and artistry, but it is also about discipline and preparation. Entry requirements

If you are interested in studying the Bachelor of Music, you will need to meet at least one of the General Entrance Requirements of the University, and the following course-specific entry requirements.

If you are a Year 12 school leaver or non-school leaver

  • Successfully complete an audition and interview including musicianship assessment during the audition (if applying from interstate, you can submit a CD, DVD or secure internet link of your repertoire in lieu of a live audition, and interview over phone/Skype).
  • Pre-tertiary TCE subjects in music are desirable, but not essential.
  • AMEB qualification of Grade 7 (performance) and Grade 5 (theory) may be advantageous in some specialisations, but not essential.

When do auditions occur?

For Semester 1 (February) entry:

  • First round occurs between mid-November through mid-December.
  • Second round occurs between late-January through mid-February

For Semester 2 (July) entry:

  • First (and only) round occurs throughout May.

If you are an international student

  • You will need to meet the International General Entrance Requirements for Undergraduate Programs.

  • Undertake a music theory and aural test on arrival at the Conservatorium of Music. International undergraduates do not need to take a music theory test if they have been accepted by audition.
