The Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting is a 12 month full-time or part-time equivalent course offered by the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics. The course is full fee-paying, which means that you will be charged at the full fee-paying rate listed for each unit.

This course provides training in accounting for those who do not have an accounting background. Successful completion of this course will give students a solid foundation in accounting fundamentals, and can be built on through further studies to achieve the level of competency required to become an accredited accountant.

Entry requirements

Applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • A completed undergraduate or postgraduate course in any discipline at Bachelor level (AQF level 7) or higher (or equivalent).

Applicants with work experience
To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • Qualifications, relevant work experience or other special circumstances, as approved by the College Executive Dean or delegated authority.

You must provide evidence to support your application on the basis of work experience, in particular a copy of your CV demonstrating your work experience, and letters of reference from line managers or similar to confirm your work experience. In the case of applicants who have worked as a sole trader or consultant, additional evidence to support the level of experience must be provided.

    Professional Accreditation

    The units in this course form part of the MPA program and on completion of the MPA degree, it provides a pathway for students to qualify for membership of Professional Accounting bodies, including CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand. The students are then able to pursue professional year studies with these bodies.

    Course structure

    To graduate from the Graduate Diploma of Professional Accounting course, a student must satisfactorily complete 100 credit points of study comprising:

    • 50 credit points of transition units from the Master of Professional Accounting
    • 50 credit points of core units from the Master of Professional Accounting
