With the Australian manufacturing industry thriving with technological advancements, there has never been more exciting time to consider a career in equipment design. In the Undergraduate Certificate in Equipment Design and Project Management you'll learn the practical science behind traditional and contemporary materials, such as metals, polymers and composites, and explore the different approaches, skills and tool sets required when working with each specific material with leading edge manufacturing processes.

We will introduce you to important industry skills, such as safety and logistics, and software design in computer programming. You will also have the opportunity to learn core skills needed in any workplace, such as human resource practices, digital literacy, communication and project management during our hands-on workshops.

As part of this course, you will learn firsthand in practical workshops located at our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Facility in North-West region of Tasmania. Co-located with industry at the Tasmanian Minerals Manufacturing and Energy Council (TMMEC) facilities, you'll have the opportunity to rub shoulders with industry professionals as you work collaboratively on real-world projects. Our students are currently collaborating on innovative projects with organisations such as Grange Resources, Jayben Australia, TazDrone Solutions, Hydro Tasmania, and many more.

Entry requirements

This Undergraduate Certificate is open to applicants from a broad range of backgrounds.

DOMESTIC APPLICANTS

Domestic Applicants who have recently completed secondary education

Completed the TCE (or equivalent)

Domestic Applicants with higher education study

Completed at least one undergraduate unit (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points).

Domestic Applicants with VET / TAFE study

A completed VET Certificate III or higher,

Domestic Applicants with work and life experience

If you have not successfully completed senior secondary, tertiary or TAFE/VET study, but have relevant work and life experience you can complete a personal competency statement. You may be eligible for an offer if you have work and life experiences that demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

Course structure

Completion of the Undergraduate Certificate in Equipment Design and Project Management requires 50 credit points including:

  • Core (37.5 credit points)
  • Elective (12.5 credit points)

Credit for prior study or work

Passes in units in other incomplete courses in this University or another approved tertiary institution may be credited towards the undergraduate certificate and a course plan developed to detail the units required by the student to qualify for the undergraduate certificate. The maximum credit granted will be in accordance with the limits stated in the Student Participation and Attainment Ordinance.
