This course will improve your literacy, numeracy, communication and computer skills, as well as improve your confidence. These skills will create more options for your career path in the future. Studying this course will help you access further certificates in general education, further TAFE studies or other training or work opportunities.

Course structure

The course structure comprises the following core and elective units. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
To be awarded the 22472VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults, a student must successfully complete a total of sixteen (16) units of competency, comprising of:

  • two (2) core units, and;
  • fourteen (14) elective units, comprising of:
  • three (3) core skills reading and oracy units;
  • three (3) core writing units;
  • four (4) core skills numeracy and mathematics units, and;
  • four (4) special interest electives units, which can be selected from:
  • units listed in the special interest electives list, which have not previously been completed, and/or;
  • core skills reading and oracy, writing and numeracy and mathematics units from the 22476VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults (Introductory), or the 22472VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults or the 22473VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults, which have not previously been completed, and/or;
  • units/modules which are first packaged in AQF level 1 or 2 qualifications in nationally endorsed training packages or accredited curriculum.

To receive RPL, we assess your previous work, education and life experiences against recognised qualifications. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
