About this course

This course is designed for young people with additional needs. You will develop personal management skills, communication, confidence and independence in preparation for work and further study.

This course will give you an understanding of basic workplace expectations. We will support your additional needs and help you to gain skills in:

  • job seeking and employability
  • work readiness
  • personal management
  • teamwork and communication
  • basic literacy and numeracy
  • applying strategies to support workplace participation
  • use of everyday technology relevant to the workplace.

As part of the Work Education Program, you will investigate and identify vocational options that you may wish to pursue in the future. You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of vocational activities, including furniture making and hospitality, which will give you an understanding of the tasks required in related job roles and how to carry them out effectively. These vocational activities will support you to pathway into further courses.

The course aims to support students develop their personal management skills, communication, confidence and independence in preparation for work and further study.

Course structure

The course structure comprises the following core and elective units. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
To be eligible for the award of 22566VIC Certificate I in Work Education learners must successfully complete a total of Ten (10) units comprising:
* Seven (7) core units
* Three (3) electives which may be selected from:


  • units listed in the 22566VIC Certificate I in Work Education curriculum
  • units first packaged in Certificate I qualifications in endorsed training packages or accredited courses
  • units first packaged in an accredited 'Course in..'.

Selection of electives must reflect the integrity and intent of the qualification.

Credit for prior study or work
