About this course

This course is designed for people learning English as an Additional Language (EAL). You will develop English-language speaking, listening, reading, writing and learning skills for further education and future employment.

You will also develop skills to:

  • practise conversations about study
  • give spoken presentations related to study
  • read and write information for study purposes
  • listen and take notes for study purposes
  • develop your language-learning and study abilities
  • learn about the education system in Australia
  • design and produce written documents.

On completion of this course, you will be confident communicating in a wide range of situations in social and community life, as well as in some workplace situations.

Course structure

The course structure comprises the following core and elective units. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
To be awarded the 22491VIC Certificate III in EAL (Further Study), a student must successfully complete a total of eight (8) units of competency, comprising of:

  • six (6) core units, and;
  • two (2) elective units, which have not been previously completed, from:
  • electives listed in the 22491VIC Certificate III in EAL (Further Study) qualification;
  • electives listed in the Certificate II, III and/or IV qualifications in this EAL Framework;
  • units/modules which are first packaged in AQF level 2, 3 or 4 qualifications in other accredited curricula and/or endorsed training packages.
