About this course

You will gain the skills and knowledge to work as a make-up professional in a variety of roles across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries. You will also develop practical skills in the latest trends and techniques including special occasion, fashion make-up, airbrushing and camouflage.

On completion you will have the skills to:

  • design and apply make up
  • design and apply make up for photography
  • design and apply creative make up
  • design and apply remedial camouflage make up
  • conduct financial transactions
  • apply safe hygiene, health and work practices.

The course is delivered over 6 months for 3.5 days a week.

For students undertaking this course as part of the Vocational Education Delivered to Secondary Schools (VDSS) program, the course will be delivered over two years on a part-time basis.

Career opportunities emerging from completion of the course include:

  • make-up artist (fashion, beauty, freelance)
  • retail assistant
  • eyelash technician.

Course structure

To be awarded SHB30221 Certificate III in Make-Up, a student must successfully complete a total of Fifteen (15) units, consisting of:

  • Eight (8) Core units, and;
  • Seven (7) Elective units, consisting of:
  • One (1) unit from Group A: Infection control;
  • at least three (3) units from Group B: General electives, and;
  • up to three (3) units from the list below, elsewhere in the SHB Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.

VU Polytechnic delivers the electives listed in the 'course structure and units' below. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
