About this course

Practical and hands-on, this course will provide you with training in multiple information and communication technology (ICT) disciplines. Exposure to industry leading platforms and programs such as Cisco, Python3, WordPress, Java, Linux OS and Splunk ensure you are working with the latest technologies that industry are asking for. During your course you will gain skills and knowledge in:

  • connecting, maintaining and configuring hardware
  • building, installing and operating networks
  • cyber security
  • introductory programming
  • operating system software
  • troubleshooting system and software faults
  • router set-up and testing
  • client-side script for a dynamic webpage
  • WHS communication and consultation processes
  • client business requirements.

You will also develop highly sought-after skills in teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration, helping you to develop your confidence to step out into the world of work or continue on with further training.

Course structure

To be awarded the ICT41015 Certificate IV in Computer Systems Technology, a student must successfully complete a total of twenty (20) units of competency, comprising of:

  • twelve (12) core units, and;
  • eight (8) elective units, of which:
  • all eight (8) units may be selected from the electives listed in the ICT41015 Certificate IV in Computer Systems Technology qualification;
  • up to four (4) electives may be selected from elsewhere in ICT Information and Communications Technology Training Package, or any other endorsed training package or accredited course at Certificate IV or Diploma level.

Electives chosen must be relevant to the work outcome and meet local industry needs as well as be approved by the Polytechnic.

Credit for prior study or work

You may be able to complete your qualification sooner through formal recognition of your existing skills. This is known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

To receive RPL, we assess your previous work, education and life experiences against recognised qualifications. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
