This course will help you launch your career in the library, information and cultural services industry. You'll develop industry-specific skills and gain a broad knowledge base for a wide variety of contexts.

You will learn to:

A Certificate IV in Library and Information Services from Victoria University Polytechnic will equip you to work in the library, information and cultural services industry. You will have well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base to work in library, museum and gallery contexts.

You will be ready to enter the workforce in a variety of roles such as:

  • client services officer
  • library assistant or officer
  • information services assistant
  • digital services officer
  • gallery assistant or officer
  • museum assistant or officer.

Course structure

To be awarded BSB42115 Certificate IV in Library and Information Services, a student must successfully complete a total of fifteen (15) units of competency, comprising of:

  • six (6) core units, and;
  • nine (9) elective units, of which:
  • five (5) elective units must be selected from Group A;
  • two (2) elective units must be selected from Group A and/or Group B;
  • two (2) elective units may be selected from Group A, B and/or Group C or from any currently endorsed training package or accredited course at Certificate III, IV or Diploma level.

Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome as well as be approved by the Polytechnic.

Credit for prior study or work

You may be able to complete your qualification sooner through formal recognition of your existing skills. This is known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

To receive RPL, we assess your previous work, education and life experiences against recognised qualifications. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
