This career involves working with elite athletes and their coaches in areas of testing and training to improve performance. Sports Scientists often major in specific disciplines such as physiology, nutrition, biomechanics, psychology and skill acquisition.
In this career you will focus on the physical preparation of professional or developing athletes. You may work directly with sports teams or for sports institutes and academies.
With further post-graduate study, you may become an accredited Exercise Physiologist. You will coordinate prescribed and monitored exercise for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries.
Working in health and fitness centres run by businesses and communities, for example as a personal trainer, a health and fitness specialist or a fitness assessor. Graduates may also work in clinics and hospitals that require skills in using exercise in rehabilitation.
