Applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2023, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 70.65. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your individual subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:
* Applicants must have completed at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) at a Diploma level or higher.
* If an applicant has failed any units, the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following subjects from the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) (or equivalent), or from the University of Tasmania:

  • Mathematics Methods (MTM415117) (TCE), or
  • General Mathematics (MTG315123) (TCE), or
  • Mathematics Specialised (MTS415118) (TCE), or
  • Mathematics Methods Foundation (MTM315117) (TCE), or
  • Applied Mathematics Foundation Unit (KMA002) (UTAS), or
  • Mathematics Foundation Unit (KMA003) (UTAS), or
  • Introduction to University Mathematics (KMA100) (UTAS)

AND
* Satisfactory achievement in one of the following subjects from either the Tasmania Certificate of Education (TCE) (or equivalent), or from UTAS:
o Chemistry (CHM415115) (TCE), or
o Introduction to Chemistry (KRA161) (UTAS)

Safety In Practice Requirements

This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

Master of Pharmacy - Prerequisites

To be eligible to enrol in the Master of Pharmacy Program, you will need to have successfully completed studies in Chemistry and Mathematics at either Year 12 or tertiary level, and tertiary level Microbiology and Pharmacology units.

If you have completed, or are currently undertaking, a degree at any university, including UWA, you must ensure you have successfully completed at least one unit from each of the topics listed in the prerequisite areas listed below. These units can form part of your major or be added in as complementary, broadening or elective units.

UWA units which meet the prerequisite requirements at the tertiary level are provided as an example. It is not essential that you complete these exact units in each topic area,and if you are studying at another university, you will need to complete a unit with similar content.

  • Chemistry - Year 12 ATAR Chemistry is accepted, or a tertiary chemistry unit, for example Introductory Chemistry (CHEM1003)
  • Mathematics OR Statistics - Year 12 ATAR Mathematics is accepted, or a tertiary mathematics or statistics unit, for example Mathematics Fundamentals (MATH1720) or Statistics for Science (STAT1400)
  • Microbiology - for example Introductory Microbiology (MICR2208) or Infectious Diseases and Immunology (MICR2209)
  • Pharmacology - for example Foundations of Pharmacology (PHAR2210) note: Drugs that Changed the World (PHAR1101) does not qualify as a prerequisite unit for Pharmacology

English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.

Graduate applicants require at least two successful years of full-time or equivalent degree studies undertaken in Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America. Applicants presenting with the IELTS Academic require an overall score of at least 7.0 and no band less than 7.0.

Graduate entry into the MPharm is a competitive process based on selection WAM.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) encompasses 30 credit points of research dissertation.
Entry Requirements

The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

Students who have completed Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (1395) are eligible to apply for this program. Students in this program will undertake the 30 credit point dissertation in Years 3 and 4 as determined by the Program Director and subject to the following criteria:

  • achievement of a minimum GPA of 5.0 for all coursework at the completion of Year 2 of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (1395); and
  • achievement of a minimum grade of 5.0 for 2013AHS Research Methods and Statistics.

The Program Director will take the following into consideration when assessing applications for admission:

  • the suitability of the proposed dissertation topic; and
  • the resources available to support the candidature including availability of appropriate supervision.
