Choosing a program that is right for you depends on your goals and your current level of English.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced speaker of English, UWA CELT has courses to help you improve your command of the language. Choosing a program is about what you are hoping to achieve whilst studying at UWA CELT. We can help.

English for general and academic purposes

International students who wish to improve their ability to communicate in English, are interested in the English language of business and employment or want to develop their English in preparation for tertiary studies can choose from one of the following courses at CELT:

  • General English
  • English for Academic Purposes

English language pathways to university studies

International students who want to study at UWA but do not have the required level of English language proficiency can undertake one of the two pathways offered by the UWA Centre for English Language Teaching.

  • The Academic English and Study Skills Bridging Course which has been granted NEAS Premium Product Endorsement
  • English for Academic Purposes course, and then sit the IELTS or TOEFL examination to meet entry requirements

Examination preparation

UWA CELT hosts test centres for the internationally recognised IELTS and TOEFL examinations.

Study Tours for groups

UWA CELT has extensive experience in the planning and delivery of intensive English language courses. These individually tailored programs are for groups of participants from high schools, university faculties and corporate, as well as government and cultural bodies.

Non-Award

Language and Communication Essentials classes are for learners from beginner to pre-advanced levels. Language and Communication Essentials is a pathway to all other English language programs at UWA, and to academic pathways at UWA College.

English for Academic Purposes classes are a pathway to other English language programs at UWA.

Non-Award

UWA CELT offers a five-week full-time IELTS Examination Preparation course at an upper-intermediate level. The course examines each section of the IETLS test, providing you with the skills necessary to improve your IELTS score.
