Whether you are a ceramicist or potter looking to explore and experiment in this art form, or an art teacher/technician wanting to complete some professional development in a ceramics studio environment, this skill set will extend the scope of your current techniques and help you ensure safe creative practice for yourself and those around you.
This skill set explores the basic science and technology of clays and glazes by employing practical empirical methods in laboratory and studio settings.
We'll cover various techniques that can be employed to systematically develop new glazes through formulation and testing. Also covered are techniques used for the application of glazes onto ware and methods for diagnosing glaze faults and problems.
North Metropolitan TAFE is the only Registered Training Organisation offering nationally recognised training in ceramics in WA.
Situated in Northbridge, we have comprehensive purpose-built facilities that provide you with dedicated ceramics studios and workshops.
Please note this skill set will be run subject to enrolment numbers.
This course may not lead to a specific job outcome, but if you are a self-practicing artist or a teacher - this skill set will enhance your skills and if you are a technician working in the field of ceramics will give you formal qualifications in glazing techniques.
