About this course

This program is delivered as both an apprenticeship program and a non-apprenticeship program.

This National Training Package qualification helps you build the knowledge and skills required to effectively perform the entry-level role of a dental technician.

Dental technicians provide support to dental personnel in public hospitals, as well as in public and private dental laboratories and clinics. As a dental technician, you'll use impressions to manufacture dentures, crowns, bridges and orthodontic appliances.

Entry requirements

Apprenticeship

You must be employed and registered as an apprentice dental technician under a Training Agreement in a dental laboratory.

Non-apprenticeship

In accordance with industry criteria, it is recommended that students be able to demonstrate:

  • literacy skills equivalent to successful completion of Year 12 English
  • numeracy skills equivalent to successful completion of Year 11 Mathematics
  • oral communication skills in the English language sufficient to ensure that the individual can accurately provide, interpret and respond to simple and routine instructions
  • the ability to perform basic functions on a computer including accessing applications and inputting, retrieving and printing data

Entry to this program is competitive. Applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on their academic achievement, e.g., ATAR, GPA or STAT Multiple Choice (including any adjustments).
