In this qualification you'll learn basic food preparation and cookery skills, which you'll be able to perform under direct supervision.
This qualification does not reflect the skills required by commercial cooks (please see the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery).
After completing this course you'll be able to work in kitchen operations in restaurants, hotels, catering facilities, clubs, pubs, cafes, coffee shops, aged care facilities, hospitals, prisons and schools. You may be in charge of preparing breakfast, fast food, non-alcoholic drinks, sandwiches, appetisers, salads and hot/cold desserts. Job roles: breakfast cook, catering assistant, fast food cook, sandwich hand and take-away cook.
Study in specialised facilitiesOur Mandurah campus has undergone exciting developments with new purpose-built training facilities in 2023, including a Mandurah Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre which will deliver simulated training in commercial cookery, tourism and event management. The new Centre includes two training kitchens, a production kitchen and restaurant for students to build their practical skills and become workplace ready.
