This apprenticeship training program comprises on and off the job components, with training blocks of four weeks twice a year for 2.5 years. Block release times are negotiated with industry to minimise the impact on peak workplace production. During the block release, all candidates undertake training and assessment and competency results are signed off in the training record book. When the candidate returns to industry, learning is reinforced in the workplace to further develop the candidate's skills and increase proficiency. The employer also signs off - that the candidate has undertaken tasks in the workplace.
