GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System)

This course is structured on a combination of theory and practical exercises using both 'live to air' equipment and simulations. It is delivered by fully qualified and accredited lecturers with deck officer or radio officer experience.

This course provides candidates with the skills and knowledge to meet Australian Maritime Safety Authority requirements of Marine Order 70 (Seafarer Certification) 2014, Section25A.

Permits person who hold a CMDSS COC, but do not satisfy AMSA's revalidation requirement of 12 months of GMDSS equipment use in the last 5 years, to revalidate their COC. If you have had 12 months use of GMDSS equipment in the last 5 years, please contact AMSA directly to discuss revalidation of your COC through them.

This course meets the requirements of STCW and is AMSA approved.

This course is approved by AMSA for the issuance of the following certificate upon successful completion of the course:
  • GMDSS Radio Operators - STCW Code Table A-IV/2

Entry requirements

Students must be at least 18 years of age.

This course has pre-requisites for entry and evidence must be provided on the first day of class.
