About this course

In this accredited course you will gain hands on practical experience in preparing food and beverages including a comprehensive introduction to the kitchen, bar, and front of housework areas. You will gain experience in making and serving coffee and sandwiches, serving customers and handling customer complaints as well as the ins and outs of opening and closing a venue. Upon completion of this course you will have gained the practical skills to enter and work in a local cafe, restaurant or bar. This course is supported by Tourism Western Australia.

The course will cover the following:

  • COVID-19 and industry hygiene practices;
  • Workplace health and safety;
  • How to prepare and serve espresso coffees such as flat white, latte, cappuccino, long black (to name a few) (this course includes your Barista certificate);
  • How to perform opening and closing cafe duties;
  • Customer service and problem solving;
  • How to carry three plates and a tray of drinks;
  • How to maximise efficiency at work;
  • How to sell and serve alcohol responsibly (this course includes your Responsible service of alcohol certificate); and
  • Workplace etiquette.

Entry requirements

Adequate literacy and numeracy skills to complete the written component of the assessment. If you have language, numeracy or literacy concerns, please discuss them with us before the course starts.
