On completion of the required courses you are required to submit the appropriate Painters Registration application form to DMIRS and follow their process.

There are two definable client groups for this course:

1. People who hold a Certificate III in Painting and Decorating or a qualification equivalent to this, or
2. People with skills and experience in painting and decorating who can demonstrate this in a practical test which is a subset of the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating & proven 5 years painting experience.

Group 1

People who hold a Certificate III n Painting and Decorating, or have equivalent qualifications, and wish to develop and/or demonstrate their skills and competencies to become registered painters. This group need the following to support their application to DMIRS:

Evidence of their successful completion of the following two (2) units of competency:

* BSBSMB401 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business
* CPCCBC4004A Identify and produce estimated costs for building and construction projects

And evidence of:
* Painting Trade Certificate or Equivalent

Group 2

The second group are people who do not have trade qualifications and need to demonstrate their painting knowledge and skills as well as develop and/or demonstrate competencies to be recognised as registered painters with 5 years Painting Experience. This group need the following to support their application to DMIRS:

Evidence of their successful completion of the following four (4) units of competency. Evidence of successful completion of Pre-requisite CPCCOHS2001A Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry is required before commencement of CPCCPD3021A

* BSBSMB401 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business
* CPCCBC4004A Identify and produce estimated costs for building and construction projects
* CPCCPD3021A Prepare surfaces for painting (pre- requisite of CPCCOHS2001A)
* 82985 PRB colour and wallpapering


And successful completion of
* 83390 Painters Trade Preparation Test (PDF Document) (158 KB)
